It’s no great mystery. Obviously bears are the Sigmas of the forest.
But far be it from me to speak for the women of the world.
Ladies, just why is it that you’d rather meet a bear, than a man, in the woods? Not, you understand, that anyone is judging you.
Men really have no idea how often and how much women think about safety. I guarantee I think about my safety at least 10 times as often as my husband thinks about the Roman Empire. When a man is walking alone to his car, how often does he grab a key or other makeshift weapon in case of an attack?
A woman’s gut reaction to the hypothetical question is based on previously felt fears. For most women, a bear encounter is only hypothetical. An encounter with a dangerous man is a fear that she has already felt in real life, even if no man was present. The women polled are mostly city women, and so the bigger fear is of strange men.
Women who live or have lived in areas with bears are more likely to fear the bear. They have previously feared the bear and have thought about ways to protect themselves from the bear.
Because most women have no clue about animals and think they are all lapdogs. Men, on the other hand, might engage you in conversation and compliment your hair.
