Not gamma because no spinning the story into a secret win, not delta because is empathetic, not alpha because doesn’t commit to keeping in touch with anyone
He liked her, but, at the time, he had options. "I'm young, I have time" kind of stuff. She'd be there, just in case. However, hindsight is 20/20... and he really liked her.
He still doesn’t just tell her why he never called.
Also he led her on for years by exchanging letters and pictures with her, and even at the time the song is set doesn’t understand/care/he likes that the song itself is STILL leading her on. He presents the “might one day get together” as if it was a war or something cataclysmic keeping them apart, and she’ll be led to believe it was external circumstances, but really he just wasn’t into her enough to drop his missions to make sure they got together.
The ‘never say never’ bit means he’ll probably bang her while she married, if the opportunity presents, and she won’t understand why he won’t commit to her.
Down the road, when she finds out that he’s finally engaged to someone else, she’s going to send a desperate letter saying that he was always the love of her life and if he just says the word, she’ll leave her husband and children/parents and dogs/career and cats to be with him. She’ll hold a flame for him until she dies. And her Time Machine will be writing a novel recounting their love story, where she finally gets him in the end. In the novel, why he never called, will be that he got hit by a bus and was in the hospital and had amnesia - external cataclysm.
He won’t ever tell her why he never called because the answer is something like “I needed to sail around the world solo” or “build a cabin from scratch with my own two hands” or “make goat skinned books by killing and eating and tanning the goats myself.” So I had to go.
And he knows that doesn’t sound right if said aloud. That stating the what of what he was doing instead of pursing her doesn’t capture the why of why he couldn’t commit to her then. His need for the mission, need to move on to the next one, that no one really understands. So he doesn’t say it, because it will fall flat and he’ll be misunderstood. And if he’s older enough now, he knows that what she’ll hear is “I liked tanning goat skins more than you” and that isn’t really it, and it’s mean. He did love her for a time, and he doesn’t want to hurt her by minimizing that. So he doesn’t say.
Source: Communications from my sigma husband’s former lovers to him from the time we got engaged until after our second child arrived. And his bafflement that they haven’t moved on, when showing them to me.
Also the manuscript he received twenty years after he moved on from a teenage romance because “I thought you should know.”
Is it because an Alpha would probably have his own family at that point and otherwise too occupied to be this nostalgic? Or because the Alpha would just call her now and try to bang her even if she had a family, whereas a Sigma prefers to just wistfully contemplate what could have been? Maybe I am doing Alphas a disservice and presuming more superficiality than is deserved. Interested in the answer, though.
I'll take a stab: Dude is obsessed with the girl, is broken, but let her go anyway, to do his own thing. Am I in the ballpark? Still trying to figure the tells.
That opinion is too Gamma-oriented. There is no obsession required. Think about the position of high-status men. Unlike low-status men, they have an abundance of choices. But they're not necessarily any wiser, nor do they necessarily make better choices, especially when they are young.
This is a good representation of the state of the art of AI video generation. In a year or two, AI will be so good that anyone with a good ear and a vision will be able to make outstanding videos and no longer need the gatekeepers.
This is awesome. I am continually amazed at your production, Vox. I can't help but be struck by the similarity between this song and what you wrote yesterday about the Generation X perspective, which felt like it could have come directly from my own brain. And I know you're not taking requests, but just know that your song One Last Breath is on every regular playlist at my house.
I can't tell you how grateful I am for the inspiration. Can't stop, won't stop.
Were Al Bundy around he'd use AI to make a dramaticized version of his famed 4 touchdowns in a single game

Great song! Sigma because of the apathy. He still doesn't care that much and doesn't explain himself.
He liked her, but, at the time, he had options. "I'm young, I have time" kind of stuff. She'd be there, just in case. However, hindsight is 20/20... and he really liked her.
Why Sigma?
He still doesn’t just tell her why he never called.

So go long on AI video generation and short AI writing?

Listen to it again. You observably missed something important.
"I didn’t keep in touch with everyone I knew"
Is it because of this? Alphas are better at keeping in touch with people?
I'll take a stab: Dude is obsessed with the girl, is broken, but let her go anyway, to do his own thing. Am I in the ballpark? Still trying to figure the tells.
Great song though!!!

No wiser indeed. I could play this song to way too many ex’s.
Holy Shit! Bro! Magnificent!! LFG!!
Very impressive AI video. Can you break down your process for creating music videos with lip syncing?
Not here. That's something for AI Central.
Holy Nickelback, Batman!
Something consistent about the Sigma song lyrics is they hit far harder than most other songs of loss and heartbreak from other SSH.

Sigma is if You had the time machine you could solve this riddle.
Delta or Gamma is if I had the time machine.
One has moved on, the other is stuck in the past mentally with a hero complex in the present that he could fix it still.
Let’s hope the boomers never figure out how this works. 80 will be the new 20.
In a lot of other ranks, it's often the girl who is gone.
The sigma was gone long before he arrived.
Well if we had a time machine we'd know.
If only we get the right date...
