The Restoration of Christmas
Focus is the answer to insidious Gammatry
For the last thirty years or so, there has been a low-key war on Christmas waged primarily by Gamma males. You can tell it’s Gammas because of its dishonest and passive-aggressive nature.
It’s dishonest because no one actually takes genuine offense at being wished well in someone else’s tradition. I’m not Japanese, but I’m not offended when a Tokyo shopkeeper greets me with the customary “Irasshaimase!” upon entering his establishment even though I’m obviously not Japanese, or a Jewish individual greeting me with a “shalom” even though I’m not Jewish.
The appropriate response to “Merry Christmas,” regardless of your religious beliefs, is: “Merry Christmas to you too!”
Now, there is nothing intrinsically wrong with “Happy holidays” except that it has been pushed, passive-aggressively, as an intentional substitute for “Merry Christmas” during the annual Christmas season, by those who hate Jesus Christ, Christianity, and Christian culture. As part of this decades-old war on Christmas, we’ve also seen dozens of so-called “Christmas” carols written that are intentionally intended to subvert the season by shifting its focus to everything from winter, to snow, to gifts, and the nasal abnormalities of hoofed mammals.
Think about how incredibly Gamma the song “Rudolf, the Red-Nosed Reindeer” is. About the only thing that is missing from the song is “and then, everyone clapped.” Although I think you could make a good case for the idea that the final chorus is even worse in that regard.
Then all the reindeer loved him
As they shouted out with glee,
Rudolph the Red-Nosed Reindeer,
You’ll go down in history.
That’s “and then, everyone clapped” on steroids. And lest ye doubt the power of the SSH, consider the author.
May drew inspiration from his own shy childhood and his desire to create a relatable “ugly duckling” character for children. He chose a reindeer as the protagonist due to its association with Christmas.
Forget Bruno Mars and The Cure. Rudolf the Red-Nosed Reindeer may be the ultimate Gamma anthem.
In any event, I was motivated to write my own Christmas song last year, when I realized that my favorite modern Christmas carol, Silver Bells, was actually nothing more than an ode to the seasonal urban shopping experience. So, I wrote This Very Night, and produced a new and improved version, the Hallelujah mix, over the weekend. I hope you will enjoy it.
