My 7 year old daughter is starting to do the whole, "Daddy it isn't fair thing." I always tell her, "Life isn't fair and that's a good thing." I explain to her how we have a nicer house and nicer things than most people. I then go on to explain how if life were fair then we would immediately be punished for every single bad thing we did. How terrible would that be?
The more and more I think about this, I'm so grateful that life isn't fair. One of God's great mercies toward us is that life isn't fair and we don't get what we deserve. He literally sent his son to pay for our sins and die for us so that we don't get what we deserve which is eternal damnation.
The interesting flipside is that the other side never appreciates losing a game that was rigged in their favor. Topically here when a Sigma can walk off with a girl that he didn't 'earn', an alpha outmaneuvers a better funded team, a delta outlasts their shitty boss or a gamma watches a scheme of losers crash out after he chose loyalty over usurpation. "That's not fair! I was supposed to win because things were unfair in my favor!" Tangentially to the SSH there's also the women who waited too long to get married and their bitterness too as well as the soon-to-be-departed Baby Boomer. They blew a 3-1 lead!
Do any of those sets of people, the ones who had it rigged in their favor and still managed to lose, seem any happier for simply having been able to enjoy an unfair game? Obviously not which indicates that it's not the simple chance at fairness that makes a man happy. So as the topic post says don't seek your own happiness or unhappiness in fairness. Better to be boxer Rocky Balboa losing against Creed after giving it everything he had. You can look yourself in the mirror without shame on that one.
A married millennial explains how to avoid unforced errors in the rigged Game:
"Sure, if you suddenly became rich and astoundingly good-looking, [and Alpha] your romantic woes would be a thing of the past. But for the most part, the real way Zoomers are losing out is through small, ordinary, unforced errors that are sabotaging their otherwise very reasonable dating ambitions."
The best gift of God is the choice he gave us enabled by the power of the Holy Spirit to choose and reject him via the Gospel.
And to receive said Holy Spirit that in conjunction with forgiveness of Sin enable God to make you who you truly are meant to be in Glory.
How one stands against the odds is how one will be judged by God. Whether Great or small. God will always judge you with what you do with what you are born with including genetics and circumstances.
The evil Alpha will receive greater punishment compared to lower SSH men for example.
I learned early that we are all equal and deserving of equal opportunities and whatnot. Despite the evidence of my eyes and the obvious conclusions of the patterns laid out before me, I held to this foolishness for the longest time.
Be cunning, my friends, and blameless. See the players and the terrain for how they are, not for what you would wish of them. Know thyself, as you are and in relation to the world.
Itβs interesting you quoted Simplicius. I joined Substack because of him. π

If the game is unfair, so be it. If the day be full of evils, let no man fear it.

It has always been this way. Compare the classical world: Pericles called Athens "the school of Hellas" in 430 B.C. But read how Athens treated Melos just 14 years later. https://www.encyclopedia.com/international/encyclopedias-almanacs-transcripts-and-maps/athens-and-melos
The desire for "fair" has killed and damned many.
Life isn't fair. So be it. You have advantages that aren't "fair." Just like everyone else.
Play the cards you have in the game you are in. Don't pine for other games which you can never play
Eve has been living this reality for the last 6000 years
Reminds me of how even if the NFL refs favor one team over another, both teams are still trying to win. There is no room to simply quit.
Here is to to another year at the rigged game.
To be a gentleman and a Roman. To do one's duty, even if you are the last.
The tally will be taken on the next level.

How could Man believe other than this, when this world is precisely and scripturally defined as such - and observably so?
"Well... People."
Yup.
Excellent post.
The wisdom of a friend's mother was "Life's not fair. But it's not fair for everyone, and that makes it fair."
Theses posts are not written as a reverse pyramid. You need to read to the end: his conclusions are reliably better than the introductions.
Happy new year. This season will also pass.
