The Final Meltdown
A true tale of a manager exposing a subordinate Gamma
This true story of a Gamma attempting to manipulate his co-workers and undermine his manager before finally being exposed and melting down in the usual rage-spiral is a useful illustration of why knowledge of the SSH is an absolute necessity for every manager and executive, and underlines why it’s important to minimize Gamma influence in the organization.
I have finally exposed a gamma who I am forced to manage. I have documented irrefutable proof of his malicious fabrications. I confronted him with it privately and my boss chose to confront him publicly, thereby humiliating him.
The gamma in turn tried a mutiny against me with the rest of my team again. Totally failed. They have all been back-stabbed by him too many times. He tried several more small manipulative ploys that I blocked at every turn. He finally tried the sulking sad mode, followed by a “buddy buddy” act toward me. Like I would forget the last two weeks of pure lies and tantrums. Finally he had a public meltdown at the end of the day today, in the company group chat.
All the while I am very non-reactive and indifferent. The office was making fun of his meltdown and backed me without me even having to speak on it. He is now cornered on all fronts and his credibility is annihilated.
When they asked me about it all I said is “Yeah, he is tantruming because he has to work.”
Took awhile for me to have enough to leave him no way out. He is quite cunning. I would usually check him but today was a checkmate and he knows it. This is the first time he has been completely exposed and publicly melted down like this. Tomorrow morning should be interesting. While I am glad the others are having a laugh at his expense, I know he is dangerous. The bubble has popped.
I would not be surprised if he did resort to some act of cowardly violence. He has no choice but escalation. He is so envious and filled with rage, yet he has no escape. All bridges are burned. No one is left to manipulate.
UPDATE: He ended up calling off today with an “emergency medical issue”.
Despite their instinctive distaste for Gammas, women are particularly vulnerable to manipulation by Gammas who have been smoked out and rejected by the men in the hierarchy. They tend to fall for the “poor me” wounded bird routine, whereas Deltas more often fall for the “buddy buddy” routine by a desperate Gamma who suddenly becomes a new and friendly changed man when he knows he’s on the edge of being cast out from the group.
None of it is real, except for the final meltdown.
The manager addressed the situation in the right way. Instead of trying to fix the Gamma or engage in futile attempts to convince him to modify his behavior, he patiently documented the relentless lies and failures, then brought the documented evidence to the relevant authority. This is the correct way to handle Gammas, because the only lasting change that is possible for the Gamma has to come from internal motivation, as external pressure will never penetrate his delusion bubble.

Had a disability protected class gamma blow up, screaming “ I wish I had taken that last severance package offer” I asked him if a deal like that was available would he take it. He answered affirmatively. Bee lined to HR, the paperwork was ready for his signature in just a few hours. He signed. What a relief. HR was highly supportive as he’d dragged them into his divorce proceedings. The PITA/SME ratio was too large to tolerate, even for HR!
I've noticed there are lots of gammas in large non profit businesses like government, healthcare, etc. These places rarely fire people making them great consequence free environments for gamma behavior
