We were also forced to read that steaming pile of dung in high-school. Being as we were probably one of the GenX tiers more openly contemptuous of boomer ideology, in that co-ordinated fashion without having it consciously discussed between us, we all, including the girls in the class, instinctively turned on the boomer implied “lesson” that the teacher was trying to impose on us (ie the usual: bulling is bad, aren’t they awful, you MUST feel bad, guilty even, about it all and EMPATHISE with poor piggy…) which resulted in every one of us, as I say, including the goody-goody pretty girl in the class to state, in the essays they forced us to write, that basically the piggy guy deserved it all because he was weak. In essence we made a mockery of the implied “Darwinism” of that shitty book, essentially agreeing hard with the “bad guys”. It was the shortest time we spent on one of the prescribed books. But then… we had learnt our lesson with the earlier prescribed book by Charles Dickens.
Between Golding's fantasies about a 14 year old girl being "sexy as an ape" and Neitzsche drinking his own urine, one of those other anti-Christian philosophers Michael Foucalt came to mind, and sure enough, he's just as perverted as the rest of them: https://newcriterion.com/article/the-perversions-of-m-foucault/
He considers the Marquis de Sade (the originator of the word sadism) as a hero and died of AIDS. He's a real piece of work.
And whoever directed the movie version of the book apparently thought the viewers wanted to see as many pre teen boys in their tighty whities as he did.
Looking at his dating history, it looks like he had a line of attractive girlfriends despite being a physically unremarkable guy.
The matter-of-fact blunt delivery in his writing doesn’t seem gamma coded at all. Many sigma-isms seem to bleed into his writing. Thinking of No Country for Old Men / Blood Meridian.
I had to read that book in Grade 10, and thought it was not only disgusting, but wildly inappropriate. It doesn't surprise me one bit to hear that he was a degenerate.
Now imagine what the inside of Stephen King's head must be like. Or better yet, let's not.
Speaking from firsthand experience inside the system, the more nihilistic and immoral a piece of 20th-21st century literature is, the more likely it is to be found in the school’s English curriculum. This is a large part of the reason interest in reading books has declined in society.
And since girls are more likely to immerse themselves in the schools’ recommended literature as adolescents, perhaps it’s a contributor to the rise in depression as well.

You can take the story out of the author, but you can’t take the author out of the story.
How kan you truly know that you kan’t truly know anything?
The shade of Plato came into the table's view
Sigmund said "let's have cigars with my girl Monni Lew"
Jean-Paul can't find an exit as his spirit sinks
Fred right said "it is my will to provide a round of drinks"
But IIIIIIIIII-I-III, I'll do almost anything you want me to-oo-oo
But I, Immanuel, I have a different view
I Kant go for that
That proposition, it will not do
I Kant go for that
A priori, no can do!

With a little bit of help from Claude. Don't let anyone ever tell you AI does not have a sense of humor.
Congratulations on the book. The supreme version of Kant Can't.
Was Cormac McCarthy potentially a sigma?

This was an instant buy when I read about it on the blog yesterday.
An entire murderer's row of depravity could be constructed, going back through the ages.
But, of course, only as a jeremiad against their twisted fever dreams.
After Weimar, wouldn't YOU burn the books too? Oh, to have sunk the boat carrying the Frankfurt School..
Chesterton's Fence, banned books edition.

Do NOT dig in his garden...
A child is better off not reading at all, than being exposed to the standard English curriculum.
Thank you, Vox, for your work on the Junior Classics.
Thank you Vox
He's unstoppable. https://www.youtube.com/shorts/YJp9wwTl1ag
It's like the title of that POLICE SQUAD episode: "The writer's barely concealed fetish".
They're all Joss Whedons.
Vox, what’s your opinion on Soren Kierkegaard?
Nonexistent.

Robert Cormier is over now but he was everywhere with this in the 90s. A certain kind of teacher loved the cruelty.
