In which a new policy is announced

Just to make sure everyone is aware of it, I’m announcing a new shoot-on-sight policy for all the “what am I” commenters who have begun popping up here much more often of late for unknown reasons. The tedium of constantly having self-centered morons first demonstrating complete ignorance of what the SSH is, followed rapidly by demands to know what they are and lengthy explanations about themselves and their past was why I shut down Alpha Game years ago.

I’m not going to make that mistake again.

So, be advised that when a new commenter appears and promptly requests to know what he or she is, I’m just going to ban them permanently. One strike and you’re out.

I have pointed out for years, mostly in vain, that the purpose and the primary utility of the SSH is neither self-knowledge nor self-improvement, but rather, the ability to better understand and anticipate the behavior of other men. And while there are certainly a number of ways in which it can be useful for the purposes of self-knowledge and self-improvement, I’m content to leave that discussion to the various grifters, self-promoters, popularizers, and redefiners who have so enthusiastically embraced the term “Sigma Male”.

I understand that this focus on better understanding and developing the SSH as a tool for social observation and analysis will likely reduce its mass appeal to the majority of people whose primary interest in anything only goes so far as it reflects themselves. That’s an acceptable cost as far as I’m concerned, since I go out of my way to avoid such people in my daily life.

The personal examples and insights from the regular readers here are entirely welcome. We’ve collectively learned a lot and even developed some new concepts and coined new terms as a result of the discourse here. And I think it’s worth protecting that discourse by refusing to permit it to devolve into little more than another excuse to permit the self-obsessed to talk about themselves.

I’ve added the new policy to the core post, although since most of these “what am I” commenters obviously don’t read it, I doubt any of them will read it or be sufficiently aware of it to avoid making The Incessant Inquiry.
