A Piece of Cheese
Both women and Gammas are reluctant to acknowledge the subjectivity of female reactions
Because Gammas are very inclined to be binary thinkers who like to construct and follow rule sets - it’s not a coincidence that so many RPGers are Gamma males - they often attempt to derive nonexistent rules from their observations of others.
Perhaps this is the key to explaining the SSH to Gammas. Just as the Priest isn’t allowed to use edged weapons and the Fighter isn’t allowed to cast spells, the Gamma isn’t allowed to talk to girls…
All right, perhaps that’s a little harsh. But the point is that the fact that a girl appears to be responding to an Alpha doing something should never be taken to mean that she will respond in precisely the same manner as a Delta or a Gamma doing the same thing.
It really doesn’t help young men to understand this subjectivity of female reaction when women are almost uniformly reluctant to admit that their response to any male action is fundamentally dependent upon how attractive they happen to find the acting man.
The classic case of this is a gamma trying to copy an approach, communication, or interaction he saw (possibly in a film!) or heard about, or imagined, between an alpha or sigma and a woman, who then tries to do the "same thing" absent the totality of the context, perception of the relative attraction and dynamic between the woman and said alpha/sigma. The general result is the alpha/sigma gets kissed, banged on the desk in the office, or whatever, the gamma gets a restraining order and sexual harassment charges, and imagines life is unfair, when the reality is he has completely misunderstood the interaction dynamics.
This can’t be stressed enough, because it can be dangerous for men.
The exact same actions (let’s go with an ass slap and being ordered into bed) is “delightful ravishment by the hero” if she’s highly attracted to the man, and rapey cringe, at best, if she’s not.
In the modern era, whether she wakes up in the morning still attracted to you or not, is the difference between being-the-one-who-got-away and false rape charges.
